What is DISC Test
The DISC assessment is a behavioural profiling tool rooted in William Marston’s 1928 theory of human behaviour, which proposes that people demonstrate four primary behavioural tendencies based on how they perceive their environment (favourable or unfavourable) and how they choose to respond (active or passive). The assessment measures observable behavioural patterns rather than personality traits, making it highly practical for understanding how individuals act and interact in real-life situations.
It helps explain how people naturally behave, how they communicate with others, and how they adapt when situations change, particularly in workplace settings.
D – Decisiveness
Reflects how a person approaches challenge, control, and quick decisions. Associated with active responding in perceived unfavourable environments.
D – Decisiveness
Reflects how a person approaches challenge, control, and quick decisions. Associated with active
responding in perceived unfavourable environments.
I – Influence
Shows how someone engages socially, expresses emotions, and builds relationships. Linked to
active responding in perceived favourable environments.
S – Steadiness
Indicates how a person maintains stability, supports others, and handles routine or change.
Connected to passive responding in favourable environments.
C – Conscientiousness
Describes how someone manages structure, rules, accuracy, and careful decision-making. Related to
passive responding in unfavourable environments.
DISC Profiles
Most individuals express a combination of the four components, forming blended profiles such as
DI, ID, SC, CS, DC, and more.
These profiles capture two key aspects:
Natural Style – how someone behaves instinctively, without pressure or expectation
Adaptive Style – how someone adjusts behaviour to meet external demands, especially
in work settings
This comparison helps highlight behavioural flexibility, stress responses, and shifts in
communication or decision-making across environments
